SONSETC, Making Sense of Sound, is a spin-off of the Technical University of Catalonia, BarcelonaTech (UPC) aimed at providing the technology developed at the LAB to the offshore industry and at offering consultancy on Noise Environmental Impact Assessment. SONSETC was created as an interface targeted at defining and controlling the impact of acoustic pollution, without impeding on the advances of human activities. This approach constitutes a scientific defy and carries an important responsibility to society, addressing potential environmental impacts of underwater sound on marine life. The synergy between SONSETC and the LAB is designed to provide advanced acoustic solutions to the offshore industry, government bodies, port authorities, NGOs and engineering firms.
The vision is to offer technological solutions that far exceed current acoustic monitoring and mitigation requirements, increase and highlight the benefit of acoustic measurements and demonstrate ocean users concern for the marine environment.
